Did Disney hit a “Jackpot” on this Deal?

Who says there is Global recession? The well known Entertainment giant Walt Disney – the company that brought Mickey Mouse to life- unveils its plan of acquiring another animation power house, Marvel Entertainment for US$ 4 billion

The deal is a business advantage for Walt Disney as Marvel Entertainment garnered hefty profits from its movie series  i.e. Spiderman, Hulk, X-men, Iron Man, Fantastic 4 and others.

It is quite strategic because line-ups for upcoming Marvel movie sequels like Spider-man 4 and Iron Man 2 are on its way next year. There are also news that Captain America the movie is also on its way to the big screen.

Disney President Robert Iger is very optimistic about the deal,

We believe that adding Marvel to Disney’s unique portfolio of brands provides significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation.

We are pleased to bring this talent and these great assets to Disney.

This merging will give Walt Disney 5,000 Marvel Characters including, Incredible Hulk, Thor, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spider-Man and many more.

Also, this deal is considered Disney’s biggest since it’s acquisition of Pixar – also another animation enterprise – 3 years ago.

The purchase is certainly a “big and bold” move for Walt Disney, but on a business stand point it seems to make sense. This only shows that whenever there is a good deal, there’s always a good buyer waiting.

I guess we will start seeing Mickey Mouse’s castle get filled with new superhero “guests” from Marvel. We only hope they would go “well” together.  (source: BBC news)
