A tropical storm hit and there follows a hole!

Agatha, a tropical storm that hit Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala left a big casualty on each nation. Reports say that because of the storm, in Guatemala alone, 92 were proclaimed dead, while 54 are missing and 59 were injured. But this is not the end of the story line for Guatemala.

Guatemala is a Central American country with an area of 108,890 km² and an estimated population of 13,276,517 was hit by typhoon Agatha last Saturday and Sunday. And as an aftermath, to everyone’s amazement, a sinkhole appeared in the Northern part of the capital city which was 330 foot or 100 meter deep.

Pictures of the sinkhole showed it was located in an intersection which luckily no one was around when the ground suddenly opened. However there are rumors of a three-storey building and a house allegedly swallowed whole by the hole but this needs confirmation.

This sinkhole happened after a natural depression because water sipped and removed the soil previously placed there. This phenomenon is known to happen slowly but sometimes the land just cracks open with one of those holes like in Guatemala’s case. Examples of smaller craters are often found in other parts of the US like Florida. Check out the video clip below to see a live action footage of the hole!
