Arnold Schwarzenegger has found another ally for his campaign against Proposition 23 through his former director, James Cameron.

The “Titanic” and “Avatar” director joins other environmental groups and donates $1million to show his support in opposing the Proposition 23. This measure has the mission of suspending AB 32, California’s greenhouse gas reduction law, “until the statewide unemployment rate drops to 5.5 percent for four consecutive quarters”. The AB 32 has the mission to reduce carbon emissions to 1990 levels by the year 2020.

Cameron’s contribution is a big deal for the “No to 23” supporters, especially now that the Proposition 23 supporters are losing their funding and key donors and a lot of criticisms are being thrown at them. As of October 28, the No to 23 campaign has raised a whopping $25.8 million, while the Yes campaign has—get this—only around $9.1 million!

The continuous donations that the “No to 23” campaign is getting shows that there are still a lot of people who care for the environment, and a lot of supporters to Schwarzenegger’s opposition to the proposition. Aside from Cameron, some of the donors that showed support are: Intel co-founder George Moore who donated $1million; California’s largest utility, Pacific Gas & Electric ($250,000); Google co-founder Sergey Brin with $200,000 and an organization of Silicon Valley tech companies with $125,000.

Schwarzenegger signed the climate change law in 2006 and, since then, has been all means to get support from everybody in his climate change policies. He’ll be leaving office by January, so he plans to truly make his climate change advocacy come true before giving way to the next governor of California.

It’s good to see that there are still a lot of people who show their care for the environment and I really hope this climate change advocacy of Schwarzenegger wins because this is the kind of law that we need now. Our environment is already in big danger and the only ones who can fix it is none other than us. I say No to 23!
