Philippines’ representative to Miss Universe 2010, Miss Maria Venus Raj was crowd’s favourite during the Miss Universe 2010 pageant held in Las Vegas night of August 23, 2010. The 22-year-old finished the pageant as fourth runner up.

During the swimsuit and evening gown competition, Miss Philippines had the loudest cheers among the crowd. Previous Filipina Miss Universe Margarita Moran, 1973, and Miss Universe Miss Gloria Diaz, 1969, commented that Raj may have not won the title, but for them she was the winner. According to them, before the question and answer portion, they really thought she’ll win as Miss Universe 2010.

Raj was asked by actor William Baldwin about her greatest mistake in her life and how did she made it right. Venus Raj answered :

You know what, Sir in my 22 years of existence I can say that there is nothing major major, I mean, problem that I have done in my life. Because I am very confident with my family, with the love that they are giving to me. So, thank you so much that I am here, thank you thank you so much.

Many thought that her answer blew her chances. According to Raj in an interview, she sometimes utters words out of nervousness when she is already on stage. Nonetheless, Filipinos are still proud of her achievement especially when the country is currently experiencing adversities. The last time that Philippines won in Miss Universe was last 1999, when Miss Miriam Quiambao won first runner up.

  1. Having endured public controversy on account of her late-registered Birth Certificate and then bravely overcoming it to recover her beauty crown from BPCI in time, MVRaj could have answered WBaldwin better by saying:

"One big mistake I may have made in life was omitting the inelegance of my complicated origins when I competed for the Binibining Pilipinas beauty crown. I corrected the mistake by personally declaring a sad truth about my humble international beginnings. Happily, doing the right thing when it became due worked things out wonderfully and so, thank you so much to my family and friends for all the love and support, for here I am tonight with audacity of hope to try to win as Miss Universe 2010!”

Considering that exotic and regal MVRaj was No.3 in swimsuit and No. 5 in gown (on same averaged rank with Miss Australia), do you think she would have made a different result? Still, making it to the Top 5 is already big honor by itself! CONGRATULATIONS, MISS RAJ!

  2. Great! Venus could have just answered that. But, don't you think this is already a WRITTEN answer of yours???? Would you have uttered those if you were there?
