A shirtless photo of the New York Rep. Christopher Lee pushed him to resign. Shortly after three hours being publicized at Gawker website, the NY representative stepped down from his office.

“It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York. I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness.

“The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately.”

The controversial photo was allegedly sent to a woman via Craiglist forum. It started when a 34 year old lady from Maryland placed an ad at Craiglist’s “Women Seeking Men” section. Gawker website obtained email messages to prove that there was really exchange of messages between the woman and Rep. Lee. According to Gawker, the 46 year old congressman identified himself as a “very fit fun classy guy” divorced 39 year old lobbyist. Making the issue hotter was the shirtless photo of Lee posing in front of a mirror.

On a personal note: Not only politics is a dirty game arena, political figures are also easy targets for destruction. In addition to that, the negative side of technological innovation is represented on Lee’s case. Perhaps it was used as a media to destroy his reputation. I’d like to give Lee the benefit of the doubt.
