The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has given their nominations for the 68th Golden Globe 2011 which will be set next year. The nominees were announced by Blair Underwood, Josh Duhamel and Katie Holmes yesterday morning.

For the film part, the drama movie “The King’s Speech” led the Golden Globe with seven nominations including Best Picture for Drama, followed by the “The Social Network” and “The Fighter” with six nominations each. The “Black Swan”, “Inception”, and “The Kids Are All Right” follow with four nominations each. The first five films mentioned previously were nominated for the Best Picture for Drama. For Best Picture in Musical or Comedy, the nominees are: “Alice in Wonderland”, “Burlesque”, “The Kids are All Right”, “Red”, “The Tourist”

Johnny Depp will be competing against himself for the award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy as the Mad Hatter in “Alice in Wonderland” and the title role with Angelina Jolie in “The Tourist”. One of the surprising news in the nominees is that “True Grit”, which was predicted to be Golden Globe’s frontrunner, was deprived of the major awards. “The Tourist”, on the other hand, was given three nominations despite being a big disappointment in the box office and being criticized by critics. Anne Hataway, James Franco and Annette Bening were also given nominations in their own films for their acting.

For TV, “Glee” led that category with five nominations including Best TV Series for Musical or Comedy, followed by “30 Rock”, “Mad Men” and “Boardwalk Empire” with three nominations each. For one, makers of “The Walking Dead” which premiered a few weeks ago, was thrilled to be recognized by the HFPA and is truly honored to be part of the prestigious event. It is nominated as Best TV Series for Drama.

In honor of his career in acting, Robert De Niro was chosen by the HFPA to be the next recipient for the Cecil B. DeMille Award. The 68th Golden Globe 2011 will be shown on January 16 from five to eight in the evening PST and eight to eleven in the evening EST. It will be live from Beverly Hilton Hotel and will be hosted by 2010 Golden Globe host and British comedian, Ricky Gervais.
