Ryan Howard had a day off from Philadelphia Phillies’ line-up on their game Wednesday, August 25, 2010. His actions on their Tuesday game had cost his team, losing against the Houston Astros. According to his manager Charlie Manuel, “He played a long time Tuesday night and also he’s having a hard time finding his swing and everything.” His manager thought that it is just right to give Howard some rest and a time to think.

Howard was ejected on Tuesday in the 14th inning after arguing on a check swing. He was not able to keep his cool and in rage tossed his bat. Third base umpire Scott Barry immediately motioned to eject Howard for his actions.

Howard’s ejection caused much disadvantages to the Phillies. After his ejection, no other players are available to replace him. Manager Charlie Manuel inserted pitcher Roy Oswalt as the leftfield player after left fielder Raul Ibanez had to move. However, the Astros were quick to outsmart their new strategy ending the game in a score of 4-2 in favor of the Astros.

According to reviews, Howard should have remained calm to stay in the game. Though there are no guarantees that Phillies will be winning against the Astros, Howard was their best chance.
