Aside from break ups, 2010 is also the year where great stars died.

Another addition to these deaths is the death of R&B singer Teena Marie. She died at the age of 54 and was seen dead in her Pasadena home, Los Angeles on Sunday. Her daughter called the paramedics when she was found unconscious. Up until now, the cause of death is still unknown.

Born as Marie Christine Brockert, Teena Marie grew up in a black community even though she was white and it was here that she got the inspiration to sing R&B. She started singing professionally at the age of eight and signed up for Motown Records after she graduated from high school.

She then met funk music pioneer Rick James, who became her mentor, collaborator, and then her lover; they had one daughter Alia.

Marie was known for her hit songs such as “Lovegirl”, “I’m a Sucker for Your Love”, and “Wild and Peaceful”. She disappeared when she gave birth to her daughter and came back in 2004 for a new album.

She will truly be missed for those who loved her music in the 70’s and 80’s because she was a great R&B singer of her time. We are sure she is in a good place right now and that she will be remembered for her great contribution in music.
