Pastor Terry Jones of Gainesville church will be heading the burning of 200 copies of Qur’an (Koran) on September 11, 2010. Jones was warned by US secretary of state Hillary Clinton but ignored such cautions.

The pastor is insistent on his plans despite death threats. According to him, it is a way of sending a message which was not dared by anyone up to these days. He said, “We feel it’s maybe the right time for America to stand up. How long are we going to bow down? How long are we going to be controlled, by the terrorists, by radical Islam?” He further stated that it is only a way of reacting to the violence that Islam religion has been spreading in the whole world.

General David Petraeus, US and Nato commander in Afghanistan, said that Jones’ plan will endanger Americans worldwide especially the US troops. According to him, it will trigger violence against Americans and will surely be used as a justification of harmful acts by extremists. Hillary Clinton described it “disrespectful” and a “disgraceful act.” Eric Holder, attorney general, called it “idiotic” and “dangerous.”

For now, Pastor Jones remained convinced with his plan and expressed that together with his church will move on with the burning activity on September 11.
