As if the appearance of the eventful blue moon wasn’t enough to usher in the New Year, the world renowned motorsports star Travia Pastrana breaks the world record for the longest rally car jump.

Supported by the local authorities and cheered on by the crowd, Pastrana performed this historic jump just a few minutes short of January 1, 2010 over Rainbow Harbor. He was aboard his signature Subaru Impreza WRX STI as he took a huge leap of 269 feet. After that, he performed an encore by back flipping into the waters from the pier for the crowd who were both there and watching via telecast. The previous record for the longest rally car jump was held by DC Shoes co-founder and team mate Ken Block and was performed during November 2001 with a record of 171 feet.

He has recently received his fourth consecutive Rally America driver title during August of 2009, which by far is the most held in history.
