The Western drama “True Grit” topped the box office in Friday after finishing in the first slot over the weekend with total earnings of a whopping $4.5 million. For its third week of release, it landed at first spot beating “Little Fockers” at $4.2 million; and the “Season of Witch” at $3.7 million in the second and third place respectively last Friday.

The film that stars Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Barry Pepper and introducing Hailee Steinfield as the lead actress did well in the box office. With talent fee of under $100 million, the producer is very happy to receive such a great reception from audience.

This is a story of a 14-year old girl, Mattie (Hailee Steinfield) who is in search of her father’s killer. She joined an old marshal portrayed by Jeff Bridges and a lawman portrayed by Matt Damon. She launched her quest in the violent Indian territory (in the version of Joel and Ethan Coen’s adaptation from the original novel by Charles Portis).

This story is told in the young girl’s perspective other than the 1969 feature adaptation which starred John Wayne. It is said in a different twist that captured the attention of millions of viewers who warmly welcome this new Western concept movie.
