With four seasons and numerous awards that have turned this TV series into a cult following, sadly, Ugly Betty has just been cancelled by ABC.

After season 4, one of the most creative, if not original, series on television will not go further. The network’s decision to end the show became final when ABC told the producers and writers of Ugly Betty to come up with a satisfying finale – a conclusion that will hopefully tie up loose ends in the show’s story. In addition, the drama-comedy series will only have 20 episodes this season instead of the usual 22.

Despite the creative resurgence of Betty’s character this season, the show’s heinously low ratings allegedly led it to its cancellation. Ugly Betty used to be aired every Friday night, and then was moved to Wednesday evenings at midseason. Viewers and bloggers are divided in opinion as to whether the Friday timeslot or the Wednesday schedule has really caused those low ratings for the series.

It is likely that, since most of America does not watch TV on Friday nights, Ugly Betty may have suffered that casualty and ABC decided to move it to a Wednesday; however, the show was too far behind to pick up its pace in the ratings race. The network though, did not confirm this. There is a possibility that Ugly Betty fans will clamor for the show to be saved by another network, if not ABC.
